Event info for the Apkārt Alaukstam
“Apkārt Alaukstam” is the oldest cross-country ski marathon in Latvia and the second largest in the Baltic States after the Tartu Marathon.
The “Apkārt Alaukstam” race takes place in the village of Vecpiebalga, in the heart of Vidzeme, Latvia. As the name sug- gests, the event revolves around Alauksts Lake, with both the start and finish loca- ted at the same venue.
The first cross-country skiing race took place on February 26, 1984, when no one could have predicted that Latvia would regain its independence seven years later. The legendary Alauksts Lake serves as the start and finish point, with partici- pants enjoying the camaraderie, untou- ched winter nature, and the magic of the snow-covered landscape in the beautiful Vidzeme district on an exceptional cross- country ski trail.
